PowerPC Experience

X-ES has a firm commitment to remaining at the forefront of leading edge technologies. X-ES has developed numerous PowerPC designs. X-ES has developed products based on the IBM 750FX and 750GX, the Applied Micro 440GX, and developed the industry's first PA Semi SBC.  X-ES has developed many products based on Freescale processors, including the MPC7447, MPC7447A, MPC7448, MPC8640D, MPC8641D, and the PowerQUICC MPC8250, MPC8270, MPC8540, MPC8548E, and MPC8572E processors. Continuing in this tradition, X-ES has embraced the next generation of the Power Architecture, the Freescale® QorIQ processor family.

Freescale QorIQ

The QorIQ processor architecture supports five P-series processor familes - the P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5 processor familiies. Each P-series processor family offers various levels of performance, functionality, and power consumption. X-ES supports the QorIQ P1011, P1020, P2010, P2020, P2041, P3041, P4040, P4080, P5010, and P5020 processors. To learn how X-ES supports all five P-series processor families on seven unique form factors read The X-ES Approach to Developing COTS Boards with Freescale® QorIQ® Processors.

The P4080 combines eight Power Architecture™ e500mc cores at under 30 watts. The processor supports two 64-bit DDR2/DDR3 SDRAM memory controllers with ECC and interleaving support, two 10 GBps Ethernet (XAUI) controllers, eight 1 GBps Ethernet (SGMII) controllers, three PCI Express v2.0 controllers/ports running at up to 5GHz, and two Serial RapidIO® 1.2 controllers/ports running at up to 3.125 GHz. It also supports two USB controllers, an SD/MMC, an SPI controller, four I2C controllers, two dual UARTs (DUART), an enhanced local bus controller (eLBC), a multicore programmable interrupt controller (PIC), and two 4-channel DMA engines.

X-ES will support the next generation of QorIQ processors from Freescale. Freescale recently announced the new QorIQ Advanced Multiprocessing (AMP) T-series of products. AMP T-series processors maintain the QorIQ platform and add improved performance, improved CoreNet fabric bandwidth, higher bandwidth memory, next-generation 64-bit e6500 core, the return of AltiVec® technology, and improvements to the Trust Architecture. The initial product, T4240, has a 400% performance improvement over the P4080 processor. And with the AltiVec unit in each e6500 core, it can provide 192 GFLOPs of signal processing performance.
