Extreme Engineering Introduces Worlds Fastest PMC Security Module
Madison, WI, January 19, 2004 – Extreme Engineering, a leading design services and
embedded products company announced the XPedite2000 network security accelerator board
today, powered by the award winning Cavium Networks NITROX Security Macro Processor.
XPedite2000 is a PMC (PCI mezzanine card) form factor card that can process up to 2Gbps
of IPsec VPN or SSL bulk encryption with up to 20,000 RSA OPS (operations per second) to
accelerate VPN tunnel or SSL session setups. XPedite2000 is used by networking OEMs and
enterprise end-users building IPsec VPNs, SSL VPNs, Webservers, Switches, Routers, Servers
and Wireless Switches
“We’re excited about XPedite2000 because it brings Cavium’s highest performance security device
into the embedded world of PMC’s,” states Bret Farnum, VP Sales of Extreme Engineering.
“Several early adopters have increased their system performance by an order of magnitude
compared to previous solutions. The PCI-X interface yields a big performance boost when
coupled with baseboards like our XCalibur series of cPCI blades,” adds Farnum.
XPedite2000 is the first PrPMC security accelerator module with a 64bit / 133MHz PCI-X interface,
accelerating 3DES, AES, SHA-1, MD5, RSA, DH cryptographic algorithms and IPsec, SSL, CCMP protocols
used in VPN, Web servers and Wireless gateway applications. XPedite2000 measures a standard 74mm x
149mm, can be hosted on cPCI, VME or existing motherboards. Optional SO-DIMM DRAM can be added to
the XPedite2000 to store encryption keys on the accelerator board, increasing the performance of
the system.

“We’re excited to be working with X-ES on XPedite2000,” said Jeff Twombly, VP Sales at Cavium.
“Bringing the performance of the CN1230 to a PMC form factor, X-ES fills an industry need for
high-performance security accelerators from winning design service companies like X-ES.”
Broad Range of Driver and Application Stack Support
XPedite2000 is software compatible with all Cavium standard PCI, PCI-X accelerator boards.
Cavium’s software support includes a rich, full-featured set of software drivers, utilities,
a common API set and reference application software. Microsoft Windows drivers, certified
through Windows hardware quality labs, are also available for easy installation and
acceleration of Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) performance. Linux and FreeBSD
drivers are provided to accelerate Apache Web server performance. Driver software code is
also provided in an operating-system independent format to easily port to other operating
systems. RSA’s BSAFE SSL-C toolkit software has been optimized for Cavium’s SSL Accelerator
boards and is available from RSA security
Product Pricing and Availability
XPedite2000 is part of X-ES’ “Ship Today” program and available immediately. Single
quantity pricing for XPedite2000 starts at $1,495, with OEM volume pricing below $1,000.
