# Linux

X-ES supports Linux on its product line of x86-based and PowerPC-based embedded processor boards.  Linux has quickly become the operating system of choice for many embedded system applications due to its flexibility, breadth of hardware support, and open nature.
Linux Board Support Packages (BSPs) from X-ES:
Closely follow upstream sources including the mainline Linux kernel and silicon vendor support software
Tailor verified support for on-card hardware
Use standard kernel interfaces and conventions (where possible)
Include documentation for getting up and running quickly
Are developed to be open source and extensible, allowing you to customize when needed
X-ES Linux support is based on the Yocto Project embedded Linux build system. This collaborative, open-source project provides a flexible build environment, making it easy to generate a custom deployable Linux image. 
The Yocto Project natively provides thousands of packages that can be optionally included.
