Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) Presents XPedite5200: An NXP MPC8548E Processor-Based XMC/PrPMC Solution with PCI-X, PCIe and sRIO Support

Extreme Engineering Solutions introduces the XPedite5200, a PrPMC that supports legacy PCI-based systems and newer serial fabric-based requirements. The XPedite5200 is centered around the NXP (formerly Freescale) PowerQUICC™ III MPC8548E device. The card comes standard with PCI-X support, and may optionally be configured for PCI Express or Serial Rapid I/O support via an XMC connector. Multiple I/O options provide the system designer with legacy support while gaining the benefits of newly evolving system component interconnects.

The XPedite5200 combines the NXP (formerly Freescale) MPC8548E with industry standards XMC and PMC supporting dual front panel Gigabit Ethernet and a single RS-232 serial port. This unique product provides up to a whopping 4 GB of DDR2 SDRAM on a single mezzanine, 256 MB of NOR flash, 4 GB of NAND flash, and four Gigabit Ethernet ports (with P14 I/O) coupled with XMC and PMC interconnect.

XPedite5200: XMC/PMC NXP (formerly Freescale) MPC8548E Platform

“Utilizing the MPC8548E’s comprehensive I/O including PCI, PCI-X and PCI Express support allows users an I/O interconnect upgrade path from XMC to PMC without sacrificing software compatibility,” states Aaron Lindner, Engineering Manager for X-ES. “Offerings of 1 GB to 4 GB of DDR2 SDRAM memory coupled with a 1.33 GHz e500 processor core can satisfy a system designer’s voracious performance appetite in a 10 watt solution,” Lindner added.

XPedite5200 offers x8 PCI Express or x4 PCI Express on XMC lanes 0-3 and x4 Serial Rapid I/O on XMC lanes 4-7, or target XPedite5203 for x4 Serial Rapid I/O on XMC lanes 0-3.

Availability. XPedite5200 and XPedite5203 are currently shipping with software support for Green Hills INTEGRITY, Wind River VxWorks, QNX Neutrino, and Linux. XPedite5200/3 pricing ranges from $1,500 to $4,100, depending on volume commitments and memory configurations.
