Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) is seeking a Systems Administration Manager to lead and actively contribute to our Systems Administration team. This role is ideal for a highly experienced systems administrator who enjoys setting technical direction, mentoring others through example, and remaining deeply involved in the design and operation of production infrastructure.
The Systems Administration Manager will divide their time between hands-on systems administration and people leadership, owning both the technical health of the environment and the performance and development of the team responsible for it.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of systems administrators, providing clear technical direction, fostering accountability and collaboration
- Provide day-to-day people management, including goal setting, performance feedback, coaching, and career development
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new systems administration team members
- Establish priorities, balance workloads, and ensure effective coverage for operational responsibilities and on-call needs
- Facilitate stakeholder reviews with other functional areas and collaborate to understand and architect systems in support of the wider organization while balancing competing deadlines
- Perform code reviews in GitLab and leverage powerful continuous integration pipelines
- Maintain highly available network storage servers using ZFS, NFS, CIFS, and Ceph
- Deploy web applications and manage MySQL and PostgreSQL databases
- Configure network switches, firewalls, and Internet gateways
- Write scripts to automate tasks and integrate services using Python and Bash
- Utilize monitoring infrastructure to proactively detect outages and respond to alerts to ensure uptime of critical services
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited high school (or valid General Educational Development certificate)
- Minimum of five (5+) years of related networking or systems administration experience
- Linux system administration experience, Ubuntu, or similar
- Advanced virtualization technologies such as QEMU/KVM, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Experience managing moderate-to-large size on-premise deployments
- Infrastructure/Configuration-as-Code platforms such as Ansible
- Strong understanding of networking concepts (DHCP, DNS, VLANs, etc.)
- Ability to work onsite from our facility located at 9901 Silicon Prairie Parkway in Verona, WI
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Administration, or a related field
- Three (3+) years of prior people management experience preferred
- Experience with O365 and managing cloud-based systems in Azure
- Experience with multiple of the following tools/technologies: Grafana, Graylog, Kea, Postfix, Redmine, Rundeck, WSL, Zabbix, Zulip
- Awareness of NIST SP 800-171 guidelines and modern cybersecurity standards
