Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) Presents XPedite5201: A Conduction-Cooled Processor XMC/PMC Solution Targeting NXP MPC8548E

Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) introduces XPedite5201, the first conduction-cooled XMC/PrPMC targeting NXP’s (formerly Freescale) PowerQUICC™ III MPC8548E processor. This card comes standard with PCI-X support and optional PCI Express support via an XMC connector. XPedite5201 is an optimal solution for military system designers that need to include additional processing in an existing system, or want to utilize the advantageous performance/watt characteristics of the MPC8548E processor.

XPedite5201, with the NXP PowerQUICC™ III MPC8548E embedded PowerPC e500 core running at 1.333 GHz, includes:

  • Up to 4 GB of DDR2-533 SDRAM
  • Up to 4 GB of NAND flash and 256 MB of redundant NOR flash
  • Rear I/O includes:
    • Two Gigabit Ethernet ports
    • GPIO
    • Two RS-232 serial ports
  • In-house X-ES operating system support includes:
    • Green Hills INTEGRITY Board Support Package (BSP)
    • Wind River VxWorks BSP
    • QNX Neutrino BSP
    • Linux BSP
  • Guaranteed 4-hour technical response to all hardware and software questions

“The extremely low power coupled with conduction-cooled design makes XPedite5201 a wonderful choice for boosting existing system performance,” states Bret Farnum, Vice President of Sales, “We have already had several customers adopt XPedite5201 for future generation combat systems.”

“NXP is pleased to see MPC8548E migrate to military applications with Extreme Engineering’s XPedite5201. Their form factor is ideal for smaller avionics and man-pack applications requiring a combination of performance and low power,” states Glenn Beck, a Marketing Manager within NXP’s Networking Systems Division.

Pricing and Availability – XPedite5201 is shipping today. Pricing starts at $6,000; discounts are available based on memory configuration and volume purchases.
