Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) Introduces First Amphenol VIPER® Based VITA 46 Products

Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) is the first single board computer company to incorporate Amphenol’s next generation VIPER technology into its VPX (VITA 46) product line. VIPER technology provides a fully shielded connector solution that meets Two-Level Maintenance (2LM) requirements, while maintaining footprint compatibility with the VITA 46 standard. The VIPER platform also offers the ability to scale from 80 MB/s to 10 Gb/s, with potential to support up to 12 Gb/s, providing a path to upcoming high speed differential interconnect standards.

“All our existing NXP (formerly Freescale) and Intel®-based VPX SBCs and systems support Amphenol’s VIPER product. This will allow customers to select the best connector/backplane for their current and future application requirements,” states Ben Klam, Vice President of Engineering.

“The VIPER connector platform delivers the demanding performance required by X-ES’ rugged extreme environment solutions designed explicitly to operate in harsh environments. The versatile and custom-configurable VIPER uniquely complements X-ES’ cutting-edge applications from conduction-cooled processor boards to fully integrated systems,” says Colleen Murphy, VIPER Product Marketing Manager at Amphenol-ABS.

Availability – VIPER configured 3U VPX X-ES products targeting NXP (formerly Freescale) PowerPC 8572E / 8640D and Intel® Core™2 Duo are shipping today with corresponding XPand1000 development platform and XPand3200 Series rugged system.
