Versal™ ACAP Technology
Built for Trust in Critical Applications
AMD (formerly Xilinx) Versal™ Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform (ACAP) FPGAs offer state-of-the-art security features and expansive programmable logic resources to meet the demands of customizable, high-bandwidth signal-processing applications.
Designed to overcome the processing bottlenecks that cause performance barriers for heterogenous workloads, Versal™ ACAPs also provide sufficient space for customers to build and implement their own custom IP and security features on top of those provided by X-ES.
Out-of-the-Box Support
X-ES provides the Hardware Manager Development Kit (HMDK) with products using Versal™ technology to deliver a pre-validated environment for rapid application development, offering an optimized library of IP, design resources, and software components that can easily be used as the basis for custom designs.
X-ES’ HMDK includes the Hardware Manager application, Arm Trusted Firmware (ATF), U-Boot bootloader, the FPGA Development Kit (FDK), and complete example designs.
Versal™ AI Edge and Prime Series Gen 2
The AMD Versal™ AI Edge 2VE-3858 and Prime 2VM-3858 Gen 2 SoC ACAPs offer more compute throughput and higher performance per-watt than Gen 1, ideal for complex workloads and maximum system performance without requiring a multi-chip solution.
- Up to eight Cortex-A78AE application processors and 10 Cortex-R52 real-time cores for up to 10 times more scalar compute
- Expanded hard IP for multimedia connectivity
- High-performance I/O, including PCI Express Gen 5, 100 Gigabit Ethernet, and LPDDR5 SDRAM
- ARM Mali-G78AE GPU and integrated video codecs for enhanced graphics and video processing
- Enhanced security features, including Application Security Unit (ASU) subsystem for dedicated secure functions
- AI engines in the Edge series devices for accelerating Digital Signal Processing (DSP) or Machine Learning (ML) workloads
Versal™ AI Edge and Prime Series Gen 2 ACAPs also provide a roadmap and development platform towards eventual adoption of future ACAP development from AMD.

The AMD Versal™ Prime VM1402 ACAP is a flexible platform offering a diverse combination of resources, including:
- 1,238k system logic cells for programmable logic with CLBs and DSP blocks
- Two ARM® Cortex®-A72 processor cores, providing significant coprocessing and standalone processing ability
- Two ARM® Cortex®-R5F real-time processor cores capable of running in lockstep mode for security and reliability
- A high-performance Network on Chip (NoC) interconnect to efficiently connect and manage the ACAP’s features
