The XPand1205 is a low-cost, flexible development platform, supporting up to eight 0.8 in. or 1.0 in. pitch conduction-cooled VPX (VITA 48.2) modules. Its payload slots are compatible with SOSA™ 3U I/O-intensive plug-in card profiles (PICPs), and its switch slots are compatible with SOSA 3U Data/Control Plane and Expansion/Control Plane Switch PICPs.
The platform provides all VITA 46 power rails, allowing modules aligned with the SOSA Technical Standard to operate with OpenVPX™ modules for development. It delivers 650 W of total simultaneous power, which can be distributed as up to 40 A on 12 V, up to 40 A on 5 V, and up to 20 A on 3.3 V. The heat from the internal conduction-cooled modules is conducted to sidewall exchangers, where it is dissipated to the ambient environment by forced-air cooling. This efficient thermal design allows up to 70 W of power dissipation per slot at 30°C ambient, while maintaining 70°C at the module’s thermal interface.
X-ES platforms like the XPand1205 provide a feature-rich solution for system development. The XPand1205 is designed to support up to 25 Gbps signaling, enabling high-bandwidth protocols such as 100GBASE-KR4 and Gen4 PCI Express. Support for Rear Transition Modules (RTMs) provides maximum I/O flexibility and rapid system prototyping. Power and reset LEDs are provided for system status, and a momentary push-button is provided for reset. VBAT can be sourced from the included VITA 62 supply, a coincell battery, or an external power source for ease of making current measurements. Toggle switches allow for configuration of the included VITA 62 power supply, non-volatile memory write protection (NVMRO), and other I/O signals.
